People might be interested to know that there are different levels (Grades) that bagpipers earn through their demonstrated proficiency on the instrument.

For groups (Bands):
Grade 5: Beginning
Grade 4: Next step up
Grade 3: Next step up
Grade 2: Next step up
Grade 1: Highest level for Bands
For individuals (Soloists):
Grade 5: Beginning
Grade 4: Next step up
Grade 3: Next step up

Professional: Highest level for Soloists
Note that there is no “Professional” category for Bands, only Soloists. These Grades are earned through ranked performances by qualified associations and adjudicators around the world.
Ross has earned both highest levels of discipline for Bands and Soloists, having won prizes (placings) worldwide in both categories. Ross earned his qualification as an Adjudicator and passed testing where he sits on the Adjudication Panel for the Western United States Pipe Band Association (WUSPBA) which in turn allows him to judge Soloist and Band competitions and performances around the world.
